Brooches are back! Here's how to style them...
For the last few years we’ve seen brooches come in and out of fashion; usually when the actor-of-the-moment adds a diamond-encrusted one to their Oscars-ceremony outfit.
But they haven’t really made it off the red-carpet… until now! Brooches are back in a big way, and I love it. This latest trend reinvents the brooch in a cool and modern way, and it’s all in the styling.
In my opinion, vintage is always the way to go with brooches. So grab a gorgeous vintage brooch and get started with some of my brooch-styling secrets…

A vintage brooch is your styling secret
This year’s take on brooches works for everyone, for any occasion, with any style.
Worn in a relaxed way, a single, sculptural brooch really brings personality to your look. Vintage brooches are perfect for this because no one else will have the same one – and individuality is exactly what this trend is all about.
Because of their scale, brooches are a really effortless way to add a statement touch (or a bit of drama!) to an outfit. I love a gold-toned brooch with interesting texture or detailing. A sculptural, nature-inspired piece looks super distinctive but slips easily into a modern wardrobe.

How to style a brooch
Modern styling is all about adding one characterful touch. If you’ve picked up a great vintage brooch, you’ve got everything you need to style an impactful look!
The most straightforward way to wear a brooch is to add one (or more) to the lapels of a coat, blazer or jacket. Instant upgrade!
Knitwear also lends itself to the brooch trend - add a brooch a simple jumper for a textural accent that immediately feels more luxurious and thought-out.
A brooch allows you to play with silhouettes. Use your brooch to pull and tuck sections of a top or dress, changing the fit and flow of the piece. Even a simple white tee feels like a catwalk piece with an asymmetric accent.

Brooches are a natural pairing for blouses, too, but just exercise a little care when pinning onto light fabric. Attach your brooch to a stable area of the garment, such as a button placket, collar or pocket.
Play around with placement and pick which feels most fresh and unexpected. A classic brooch-and-blouse combination feels subversive when paired with loose jeans, while a casual scattering of brooches on a tailored coat creates a contemporary contrast.
You can even accessorise your accessories, adding a brooch to your hat or bag for a Jane Birkin touch. Brooches are also a styling-secret-weapon to bring back to life all those vintage scarves you’ve got at the back of the wardrobe; fasten loosely at the neck and add a brooch, for a bohemian-hardware accent.
